Get Creative & Smart with Awards

Inc.com recently posted an awesome article about ” Rethinking Employee Awards”. Here are a few highlights from the article:

  • SurePayRoll recently honored the year’s ”Best New Mistake”. Make note that it had to be a new mistake, not the same  mistake  made  twice.  This was to remind staff that failure is an option, to promote innovation and that mistakes are a part of success.
  • Another company awarded the “Disruption Award” to an employee  who’s life was severely disrupted by work throughout the year. Someone who stepped up to the plate, took on rigorous projects and pulled late hours at the office. Again, another funny category but one that employees would truly appreciate being awarded for.
    • The editor also offered tips on employee rewards such as:
      • Customize prizes by finding out what employees prefer such as time off, a trip, money, or something else.
      • Recognize multiple performers; you don’t have to always pick just one per category.
      • Limit the kinds of awards. When you have too many, they become meaningless.

KEEN Presents Pop-Up Park in Denver

We got word of a cool little event that’s happening in Denver today hosted by KEEN Inc., a manufacturer of original hybrid footwear, bags and socks.

In an effort to promote a healthier lifestyle for hard-working adults, they are presenting a pop-up park in Denver today from 11am- 5pm today. They’ve taken over an outdoor space and dressed it up in outdoor decor and games and activities. The idea is to give yourself a little break during the day to seek out mental and physical activities for a healthier lifestyle.

If you are in the Denver area, swing by 16th Street Mall, Skyline Park at 16th and Arapahoe and check it out.

For those not in the area, try and take 5 -10 minutes of your work day to step outside for fresh air or walk around for a few minutes- it’s good for the body and soul to take a break!

Happy Friday all and enjoy the weekend!

The Allstar QR Code!

You may have seen these funny looking barcode squares pop up in establishments around your city, and now Allstar has one!

From movie posters, to business cards, to magazine and newspaper ads, QR codes seem to be stamping themselves all over.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with QR codes, below is a quick little overview of what they are and why it’s a great tool to have for a business.

QR, abbreviated for “Quick Response”, is a two dimensional matrix bar code containing specific information that can be read by your camera cell phone.

QR codes were originally created by  a company called Denso Wave to store product information inside a barcode that could be read through a scanning device.  The codes are now widely popular throughout Europe and America for establishments to offer information to patrons via cell phones.

How does it work?

Using your camera cell phone, download a QR reader software (free online) and once that is done, simply point your camera towards the barcode for information to be scanned.  The software will decipher the code and your phone will display a website, text or files to download. Rather than having to write down information to be researched later, or entering a web address, QR codes make it easy to access information fast with a click of a button.

A QR code has the following capabilities:

  • Direct connection to a website
  • View and dial a phone number
  • Email a recipient
  • Download files

When users scan the Allstar QR code, they will instantly have access to the Awards by Allstar website.
